Five days after a real coup on the board of OpenAI, Sam Altman is returning as CEO. Former president Greg Brockman, who resigned in protest at the CEO’s dismissal, will also return.
In a statement, the company officially announced that there is an “agreement in principle” on the return of Altman and a new board consisting of Bret Taylor, Larry Summers and Adam D’Angelo. The latter is a member of the former board that originally dismissed Altman – he remains on the board as a kind of representative of the former management.
Sam himself has also confirmed his return.
I love OpenAI, and everything I’ve done in the last few days has been focused on keeping this team and its mission together. When I decided to join MSFT, it was clear that this was the best path for me and the team. With a new board and Satya’s support, I look forward to returning to OpenAI and building on our strong partnership with MSFT.
