How to care for oily facial skin

by Vladimir Levitsky

What is oily skin?
Oily skin is a skin type in which the sebaceous glands are very active, causing the skin to become shiny and inflamed more frequently. It is an innate characteristic, which means that it cannot be changed.

In the oily type, the pores on the face are clearly visible and may have an oily sheen, but the latter is not necessary. At different ages, the amount of sebum can vary, e.g. increasing during puberty and after ovulation and decreasing after the menopause. Various factors can also increase oiliness:

Stress, which increases the production of the hormone cortisol;
a diet high in refined carbohydrates;
insufficient water intake;
an increase in ambient temperature, which is why we are more prone to oily skin in summer.
Is oily skin bad?
No. People with oily skin often think they have an unlucky lot, but this is not true. Yes, at a young age there is a greater chance of rashes and clogged pores, but there is also a greater chance of developing wrinkles later in life. In addition, it is much easier for people with this skin type to maintain normal skin moisture levels.

How to care for oily skin?
The most important thing is not to let the skin dry out. In this condition, the sebaceous glands begin to work more actively and the skin becomes sensitive. To do this, you must not only moisturize your skin from the inside (by supplying it with sufficient water) and from the outside (by taking care of it), but also pay attention to the superficial lipid layer that traps the water inside and does not allow it to evaporate. In this way, you can control oiliness.

And to avoid clogged pores and rashes, you should gently exfoliate your skin.

How to cleanse oily skin?
Cleansing requires gentle products. Contrary to popular belief, oily skin should not be scrubbed and scrubbed until it squeaks. Otherwise, on the contrary, you can only increase the activity of the sebaceous glands.

And to reduce the number of black spots and rashes, you can use gentle enzyme powders or light products with acids every three days or once a week. They help to remove excess layers of dead cells.

You should wash your face in the morning and evening and after exercise.

What toning should look like
This step is also a must in any skincare routine. Like the cleanser, the toner should not contain alcohol or other harsh ingredients that can dry out the skin. Otherwise, you can choose any product you like.
